Hitchin Karate Club

Hitchin Karate Club

The Hitchin karate club is run by Sensei Angus Pearson (5th Dan) and Sensei Paul Grimsey (6th Dan). The club was started in September 2000 and now has over 40 members both junior and adult. Sensei Pearson always welcomes new students and any ESKA member looking to enhance their training. Either turn up at a training session and join in or contact us for more information.

We now offer two training sessions a week – Saturdays and Wednesdays. Our dojo is at Hitchin Boys School, where we train in the gym on Saturday morning (9.30-11.30am). We also run a training session on Wednesday evening at St Johns Community Centre (7-8.30pm). We are a family-friendly martial arts club.

We are part of ESKA (English Shotokan Karate Association) whose Hombu is based at the Stevenage Leisure Centre.

Coronavirus update 19.12.21

Hitchin Karate Club operates in line with the Coronavirus guidance offered by the Government, Sport England, ESKA (our governing body) and Hitchin Boys School. The following restrictions are currently in place:

  • The changing rooms and showers are closed until further notice
  • Hands to be sanitised upon entry and regularly after that (for those attending the first lesson, hand sanitising upon entry and exit is sufficient
  • Wearing of masks on entry to the building and moving around the building is compulsory (junior students do not need to wear masks, however any parents dropping off/collecting should wear one. Also, the instructors will wear masks when not instructing)

In addition, social distancing measures are observed for students and a one-way system for dropping off and collecting is in place.
